Statistical information sources can enhance your research papers and in many cases may be essential to completing an essay or assignment. This guide contains statistical databases and tools that can be used to quickly locate authoritative statistics on a variety of subjects. Each Library Subject Guide also contains subject-specific links to statistical sources.

Download Beyond 20/20 Browser for use with E-Stat and DLI tables.
Don't pay for Statistics!! Many CANSIM and CENSUS statistical tables are available for free to faculty and students through E-Stat. If you locate a table with an associated cost through Statistics Canada's internet site, be sure to check E-Stat before agreeing to pay for the statistics.
You may also find statistical resources listed in the Library Catalogue. Add the following phrase to the end of your search words: and statistic* (for example, homicide and statistic*).

Statistics Canada's educational database including Census data and CANSIM (Canadian Socio-economic Information Management System). The Census provides a statistical portrait of Canada, and CANSIM provides observations at regular intervals on subjects such as labour, health, income, trade, education, manufacturing, and investment. ESTAT also provides access to publications from Statistics Canada which comment upon data retrieved from statistical surveys – i.e. highlighting economic trends, or giving overviews of crime rates across Canada.

This application facilitates the exploration (searching, data manipulation, creation of summary statistics, graphing and export) of multiple, sophisticated data sets from Statistics Canada and polling data from Gallup. The Canadian Opinion Research Archive is a collection of hundreds of commercial and independent surveys dating back to the 1970’s. Individuals conducting research for non-commercial purposes may be able to get access to CORA’s electronic holdings by requesting a password from the CORA manager. CORA is generally prohibited from sending raw data extracts from commercially produced datasets (CROP, Decima, Environics). CRIC (Centre for Research and Information on Canada) data are available for download.

The Canada Year Book was an annual publication from its first issue in 1867 (called the "Year-Book and Almanac of British North America") until the 1978/1979 issue. It was a biennial publication from the 1980/81 issue until the 2001 issue. In 2003 the Canada e-Book was released as an electronic version based on the 2001 Canada Year Book. There were no issues from 2002 to 2005. With the 2006 edition, the Canada Year Book returned to an annual frequency.

These profiles present community-level information from the 2006 Census of Population. New for 2006: Census Tract (CT) Profiles.
